Pontevedra Province funds Mondariz hotel district revamp as municipality holds 144,000 sqm of idle business land

The provincial government of Pontevedra approved a total of about €580,000 to refurbish the public space surrounding the historic hotels of Mondariz Balneario. €490,000 has already been received from the 2025 Extra‑Province Extraordinary Plan, with an additional €88,800 to be approved by the Junta de Gobierno under the 2026‑2027 +Provincia plan. The investment will redesign more than 3,000 m² of the avenue between PO‑254 and Javier Solano, turning it into a mainly pedestrian zone with compacted earth pavement, lighting, fountains, green areas and improved access to the Valdecide stream.

Separately, Mondariz municipality still possesses 144,000 m² of undeveloped business land in the A Lagoa area. A recent meeting between the town’s mayor, the regional minister of Economy and Industry María Jesús Lorenzana, and provincial deputy Pablo Castillo highlighted the stalled efforts to activate this land, citing political disagreements and the lingering effects of the COVID‑19 pandemic. Authorities aim to create new industrial and tourism facilities to generate jobs, but no concrete steps have been taken since the land became available.
