Pontiac Grand Prix: Rare Americana edition and 1973 redesign

Automotive enthusiasts have highlighted various iterations of the Pontiac Grand Prix, including a rare 1985 Americana edition and the redesigned 1973 model.

A 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix Americana has been identified for sale in South Hadley, Massachusetts. This rare G-Body special edition, which was installed exclusively by Pontiac dealers, features a distinctive vinyl landau top, opera lighting on the B-pillars, and unique exterior badging. The well-preserved vehicle includes luxury options such as bucket seats, a center console, power windows, and cruise control.

Historically, the 1973 Grand Prix marked a significant shift for the model as it moved to the General Motors A-body platform. Despite losing its long hood/short deck packaging, the 1973 model saw a 67 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year. This redesign incorporated new federal bumper impact standards and the Colonnade roof package, with top-line SJ models featuring a 455 CID V8 engine.
