Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso launches rector Nelson Vásquez's term with a concert

On a recent ceremony, the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) marked the beginning of the 2026‑2030 academic period with a concert titled “Los sonidos de nuestra historia: un concierto al amor y la creación humana”. More than 400 members of the university community, officials and guests attended in the Casa Central. The event was organized by the university’s Orchestra and Chamber Choir and featured a repertoire of 20 works ranging from classical pieces to popular songs such as “Gracias a la vida”, “La vie en rose”, “My Way”, and “Imagine”.

The concert was directed by conductors Jesús Rodríguez (orchestra) and Manuel Suazo (choir). Guest performers included soprano Maribel Villarroel and 17‑year‑old baritone Pedro Mercadal. Rector Nelson Vásquez used the occasion to emphasize the role of love, friendship, gratitude and memory in academic life, linking the music to the university’s commitment to knowledge, the Valparaíso region and Chilean society.
