Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso expands senior student program to 92 elders

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) has launched the second edition of its Senior Student Program, enrolling 92 older adults in 18 university courses. Participants will attend classes alongside undergraduate students in subjects such as Autocuidado y Vida Saludable, La Religión después de Freud, Innovación y Emprendimiento Social, and Gestión para la Diversidad e Inclusión Social.

Program director Karina Toledo highlighted the initiative as a concrete expression of inclusive education, noting that seniors bring life‑experience while younger students gain new perspectives. Rubén López, head of the Acción Senior program, said the project began in 2024 with 24 seniors in four courses and has grown steadily, reflecting strong interest from older citizens to stay active in academic environments.
