Pony League World Series faces disruption due to heavy rain

Torrential rainfall disrupted the Pony League World Series, leaving the Lew Hays Pony Field waterlogged and unsuitable for play. Despite extensive efforts by ground crews and volunteers to dry the natural surface using trenching and drying agents, organizers were unable to restore the field in time for the championship game between Washington County and Chinese Taipei.

Nathan Voytek, president of World Series Tournaments Inc., stated that the organization lacked a contingency plan because they had not previously encountered such conditions. In response to the field issues, coaches from Puerto Rico organized unsanctioned exhibition games at Canon-McMillan’s McDowell Lane Field. These games included teams from Puerto Rico, Washington County, Mexico, and West Covina, allowing the young athletes to play despite the official tournament's scheduling difficulties.
