Pony.ai and Sany target 100,000 autonomous electric trucks by 2030

Pony.ai, a Chinese autonomous driving company, has partnered with heavy machinery manufacturer Sany to launch a massive initiative for electric and autonomous trucking. The companies aim to deploy 100,000 driverless, electric trucks on Chinese roads by 2030.

The strategy involves utilizing Level 4 autonomous technology, which significantly reduces the need for human intervention. One proposed operational method is the use of convoys, such as a 1+4 model where a single truck with a driver leads a group of four autonomous trucks. The companies plan to bring the first electric and autonomous truck to market within this year, featuring a 400 kW battery.
