Pony.ai and Uber to deploy 2,000 robotaxis across Europe

Pony.ai and Uber Technologies have announced an expanded strategic partnership to deploy more than 2,000 robotaxis across Europe and the Middle East. This expansion builds upon their existing commercial service in Zagreb, Croatia, which is set to be integrated into the Uber platform.

The rollout will include four additional European cities, with specific locations and timelines to be announced in phases. The partnership utilizes a joint-deployment model that combines Pony.ai’s Level 4 autonomous driving technology and operational expertise with Uber’s global mobility platform, which provides booking, payment, and customer service capabilities.

Day-to-day fleet operations are expected to be managed by local partners in each respective market. This move positions the companies to compete more directly in the autonomous vehicle sector against rivals such as Alphabet-backed Waymo.
