Pony.ai targets 100,000 autonomous trucks by 2030
Pony.ai has announced ambitious scaling targets for its autonomous commercial vehicle business. The company plans to deploy 1,000 autonomous electric heavy-duty trucks by 2027 and aims to expand its fleet of L4 autonomous light-duty trucks to 100,000 units by 2030.
In partnership with SANY, Pony.ai is transitioning from hand-built prototypes to regular production of autonomous road trucks. Over the next two to three years, the company expects to deploy 500 to 1,000 fourth-generation heavy-duty trucks in China, focusing on long-haul freight, bulk commodity transportation, and port logistics.
A key driver for this expansion is significant cost reduction; the fourth-generation autonomous hardware costs are approximately 70% lower than the previous generation. The company reported that its Robotruck business generated over $10 million in revenue in Q1 2026, representing a year-over-year increase of more than 30%.
