Poços de Caldas City Council debates fiscal deficit and infrastructure safety
The Poços de Caldas City Council is addressing critical municipal issues ranging from financial instability to public safety. Councilman Douglas Dofu has requested detailed information regarding the city's fiscal situation after reports showed a significant shift in financial indicators. Between the end of 2024 and 2025, processed payables rose from R$72.9 million to R$159.5 million, while net cash availability dropped from a positive R$24.4 million to a negative R$35.1 million. Additionally, the 2025 budget report recorded a deficit of R$55.5 million.
In a separate matter, Councilman Tiago Mafra has raised concerns regarding the structural integrity of a bridge connecting São Paulo and Major Joaquim Bernardes streets. A technical report from 2017 previously identified concrete deterioration, corroded reinforcement, and asphalt cracks. The council is now seeking updates on whether new inspections have been conducted and if corrective measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers in the high-traffic area.
