Poços de Caldas hosts major geek festival and classic‑car show boosting local economy
The city of Poços de Caldas in Minas Gerais will stage two high‑profile events this summer. The 39th edition of the Made in Japan geek festival is scheduled for 26‑27 September at the Fundação Gota de Leite, featuring celebrated Brazilian voice actors Wendel Bezerra and Nizo Neto. The program includes a cosplay contest, a K‑Pop stage, artist alley and merchandise stalls, and the organizers plan to expand the circuit to Bahia in October.
From 30 July to 2 August, the 19th Poços Classic Car gathering will showcase more than 400 classic vehicles, marking the 90th anniversary of the historic Grande Prêmio Thermal. Local officials expect the fair to draw thousands of visitors and generate over R$ 70 million in economic activity, benefitting hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, transport services and the city’s tourism sector.
