Pop music dominates global and Indonesian markets

Pop music continues to dominate both the global and Indonesian music markets. Globally, pop music accounts for approximately 27.65 percent of the total music industry market share. Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ recorded the highest gross revenue between November 2023 and November 2024, earning USD 1.04 billion from 5.21 million tickets sold. Coldplay followed in second place with USD 421.71 million from their ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour.

In Indonesia, a Jakpat survey indicates that pop is the most preferred music genre, favored by 71 percent of respondents. Dangdut ranks second with 31 percent, followed by K-Pop at 29 percent. Rock and classical music follow at 27 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

Digital streaming remains the primary driver of industry revenue, accounting for roughly 85.82 percent of total income. Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels play a significant role in the viral success of songs, while the digital music market in Southeast Asia, led by Indonesia, continues to show rapid growth.
