Pope Benedict XVI commemorates Saint Dominic in 2010 address

On 3 February 2010 Pope Benedict XVI delivered a general audience in which he highlighted the life and legacy of Saint Dominic Guzmán, founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). He recalled his early education in Palencia, his dedication to Scripture, his charitable acts such as selling books to aid famine victims, and his commitment to poverty and preaching.

The Pope quoted a prayer by Blessed Jordan of Saxony, Dominic’s successor, and warned against the temptations of power and prestige, urging clergy to serve humbly. He also referenced his recent talk on Saint Francis of Assisi, linking the two saints as models of zealous service to the Church.
