Pope Francis arrives in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for farewell mass

Pope Francis, referred to as León XIV, reached the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife about an hour later than scheduled. He presided over an outdoor Eucharist that concluded his pastoral visit to Spain.

More than 35,000 people gathered at the waterfront, listening to traditional Canarian music – the chácaras and Gomero drum – before a solemn pause. The crowd broke the silence with a unified chant of “Sí, sí, sí, el Papa ya está aquí,” followed by applause and cheers as the Pope entered.

The ceremony marked the final event of the Pope’s month‑long tour of the Spanish mainland and the islands, blending local cultural expressions with the religious significance of the farewell mass.
