Pope Francis calls for media to serve the common good

In a message addressed to the World Catholic Media Conference (SIGNIS) in Kigali, Rwanda, Pope Francis emphasized that media platforms should serve the common good of the human family. He noted that in the current digital era, online communication does more than transmit information; it shapes culture and influences collective conscience.

The Pope expressed hope that discussions regarding digital communication for cultural harmony and environmental welfare would foster strategies rooted in truth and human dignity. He encouraged media to reflect values of communion, peace, and environmental stewardship.

Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, also provided a video message, reminding participants that communication begins with people rather than technology. He highlighted the challenges of the modern era, including war, polarization, and misinformation, noting that despite advanced connectivity, trust remains a critical issue.
