Pope Francis’ encyclical urges human dignity, AI restraint and a “craftsmanship of peace”

In a historic address to Spain’s Congress and a newly released encyclical, Pope Francis called for a renewed focus on human dignity and an end to the proliferation of war. He condemned the use of artificial intelligence for lethal purposes, rejected nationalist exclusion, and affirmed the Church’s stance against abortion and euthanasia while supporting respectful immigration and the sanctity of life at all stages.

The Pope introduced the concept of an “artesanía de la Paz” (craftsmanship of peace), urging societies to redirect the billions spent on armaments toward combating hunger, disease, poverty and environmental damage. He argued that the world’s technical capacity could solve many of its gravest problems if not channeled into weapons development. The message, delivered through speeches in Spain’s Congress, the Bernabéu, Cibeles and other venues, is intended as a moral mirror for politicians across the spectrum.
