Pope John Paul II election commemorated at prayer vigil in Rome

A prayer vigil was held at St. Peter's Square to commemorate the anniversary of the election of Pope John Paul II. Organized by the Church and the St. Stanislaus Hospice in Rome, in collaboration with the John Paul II Vatican Foundation and various Polish pastoral groups, the event brought together the Polish community in Rome.

During the vigil, participants prayed for the health and spiritual strength of the current Pope, who was noted as being at the Gemelli Polyclinic. The ceremony also focused on global peace, referencing John Paul II’s 1986 speech in Assisi. Participants recited the Pope's prayers for the end of war and violence, calling for an end to the logic of revenge and the pursuit of peaceful solutions to modern conflicts.
