After seeing the Pope during his final pilgrimage to Poland in 2002, the pair met him personally a year later in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, during a trip with Father Andrzej Ziemieśkiewicz. During a Wednesday audience, the Pope reportedly suggested that the two, who were not yet a couple at the time, approach him as the final pair of newlyweds. Following this unexpected suggestion and blessing, the two eventually married.
