Pope Leo XIV announces theme for 2026 World Day of Migrants and Refugees

Pope Leo XIV has announced the theme for the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, to be observed on September 27, 2026. The chosen theme, ‘Even just one of these children,’ focuses on the extreme vulnerability of minors forced to flee their homes due to war, poverty, violence, and environmental disasters.

In his message, the Pope emphasizes the need to look beyond statistics to recognize the individual dignity of every child and adolescent. He highlights the various risks faced by young migrants, including human trafficking, exploitation, forced marriage, and recruitment into armed conflicts. He also calls for solidarity, noting the efforts of families, educators, and volunteers who assist those in need.

To mark the occasion, Migrantes Press is releasing a special double issue centered on this theme. The publication includes an editorial by Archbishop Corrado Lorefice, President of the Migrantes Foundation, who argues that the Church’s commitment to welcoming migrants is an act of faith rather than politics. The official Mass for the day will be held in Siena, Italy, presided over by Cardinal Augusto Paolo Lojudice.
