Pope Leo XIV appoints two new bishops in Brazil

Pope Leo XIV has appointed two new bishops for the Catholic Church in Brazil.

Dom Júlio César Gomes Moreira has been named the new bishop of the Diocese of Rubiataba-Mozarlândia in Goiás. Previously serving as an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte, Moreira holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Brasília and has specialized in existential analysis and logotherapy.

José Paulino Francisco Neto has been appointed to lead the Diocese of Porto Nacional in Tocantins. A priest from the Diocese of Araçuaí, Francisco Neto has served as a missionary in the Archdiocese of Vitória since 2020. He holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina.

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) expressed joy regarding the appointments, welcoming the new leadership for their respective dioceses.
