Pope Leo XIV calls for protection of migrant children

Pope Leo XIV has released his message for the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, scheduled for September 27, 2026. The theme for this year is ‘Even just one of these little ones’, focusing on the extreme vulnerability of children and adolescents within global migratory flows.

The Pope emphasized that millions of minors are forced to flee their homes due to war, poverty, violence, and environmental disasters. He highlighted the profound suffering of these children, including the loss of family members, witnessing unspeakable violence, and the trauma of forced separation during repatriation.

Leo XIV called for an urgent shift in global perspective, moving the debate from the mere management of migratory flows to the immediate and full protection of human rights. He urged both public and private institutions to prioritize the dignity and best interests of migrant children, advocating for effective legal instruments, family reunification, and real opportunities for social integration.
