Pope Leo XIV considers potential pastoral visit to Bari

Pope Leo XIV has expressed openness to a potential pastoral visit to Bari, Italy, following a private audience with Archbishop Giuseppe Satriano of Bari-Bitonto. During the meeting, Satriano extended an official invitation and delivered letters from both the Archbishop and Bari Mayor Vito Leccese.

The discussions highlighted Bari’s role as a Mediterranean bridge between the East and West, emphasizing its ecumenical vocation and the historical importance of Saint Nicholas. Satriano noted that the city has not hosted a formal pastoral visit since Pope John Paul II in 1984, though subsequent Popes have visited for specific events.

As a symbolic gesture, the Archbishop presented the Pope with a decorated ampoule containing 'Holy Manna' and featuring the image of Saint Nicholas. The Pope offered his prayers and blessings for the sick and those experiencing suffering.
