Pope Leo XIV considers Portugal visit and engages with Brazilian religious events
Pope Leo XIV is considering an invitation from the President of Portugal to visit the country in 2027. During a meeting at the Vatican, the President renewed the proposal, which would coincide with the 110th anniversary of the Apparitions and the 500th anniversary of the creation of the Apostolic Nunciature in Lisbon. While a formal date has not been confirmed, the Pope indicated a positive reception to the possibility of a visit.
In Brazil, religious festivities are also prominent. The Pope sent a message of blessing to the faithful participating in the 234th Círio de Nazaré in Belém, scheduled for October 2026. Additionally, the Pope recently received a wooden sculpture of Our Lady of the Amazon, sent by devotees from Manaus, and expressed interest in the construction of a new sanctuary in the region.
In Marabá, the 46th Círio festivities have officially commenced with local religious ceremonies including the Pilgrimage of Light and the Solemnity of the Flags.
