Pope Leo XIV convenes Vatican meeting to mark 10 years of Amoris Laetitia

Pope Leo XIV Amoris Laetitia Vatican World Mission Sunday Catholic Church

Pope Leo XIV has convened a weeklong meeting at the Vatican, running from October 7 to 14, 2026, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia. The gathering brings together more than 150 bishops, patriarchs, and presidents of episcopal conferences from around the world to discuss the challenges and fragilities facing modern families.

During the proceedings, participants are addressing various contemporary issues, including the impact of digital technology on family life. Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão highlighted how phone-free family evenings have helped restore communication in households. The meeting also serves as a platform to discuss pastoral ministry in the context of interfaith marriages and changing social understandings of relationships.

In a separate message, Pope Leo XIV addressed the upcoming 100th edition of World Mission Sunday, scheduled for October 18. Using the theme ‘One in Christ, united in mission’, the Pope encouraged global unity and missionary zeal, reflecting on his own past service as an Augustinian missionary in Peru.
