Pope Leo XIV joins historic boat procession on Lake Albano
Pope Leo XIV made history on August 29 by becoming the first Pontiff to participate in a boat procession on Lake Albano. The event took place in Castel Gandolfo during the feast of Our Lady of the Lake.
Following a Mass at the Church of Maria Santissima del Lago, the Pope joined a procession carrying a statue of the Virgin Mary. He traveled on a boat named ‘Falco’ alongside approximately ten other vessels, including kayaks and civilian boats, toward Giorgio’s Beach. This ceremony also marked the 400th anniversary of the presence of Popes in Castel Gandolfo.
During his homily, Pope Leo XIV called for peace and human dignity, urging the faithful not to let injustice or evil corrupt their hearts. He emphasized the need for love, hope, and forgiveness in a world facing conflict and hatred.
