Pope Leo XIV urges faithful to see God's kingdom as hidden treasure

On July 26, Pope Leo XIV gave his Angelus address on the square of St Peter’s Freedom in Castel Gandolfo, speaking before the Angelus prayer.

He reflected on the Gospel parable (Matt 13:44‑52) that likens the Kingdom of God to a hidden treasure and a pearl of great value, urging believers to recognise that true wealth is found in a relationship with God rather than in material consumption. He said, “Encountering His kingdom is a turning point that expands life rather than limits it.”

The Pope warned that consumer culture constantly creates new desires that cannot satisfy the heart and called the Church to unite people of different cultures, professions and backgrounds around this spiritual treasure, invoking the wisdom of young King Solomon to discern what is truly valuable.
