Pope Leo XIV urges priests worldwide to reject isolation

On June 12, the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests, Pope Leo XIV addressed priests worldwide. He urged clergy to cherish fraternity, become builders of peace, and avoid solitary efforts, warning that “the priest who isolates himself slowly fades away.”

The Pontiff emphasized that holiness grows through communal prayer, the Eucharist, and service, not through isolated asceticism. He called priests to be “living witnesses of a reconciled heart,” saying the world “greatly needs pastors who offer more than simply words or programs.” The message highlighted the need for priests to stay close to people, showing compassion, listening, and fostering unity amid an “age marked by division and fear.”
