Pope Leo XIV announces upcoming visits to France and South America

Pope Leo XIV has confirmed an extensive international itinerary, including a visit to France from September 25 to 28 and a South American tour from November 11 to 17, 2026. The French visit will include stops in Paris, Lourdes, and Metz, featuring a private meeting with victims of sexual violence in the Church. Due to the separation of Church and State in France, the Catholic Church is launching a donation campaign to cover an estimated 20 million euro budget for the trip.

The South American tour will encompass Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru. In Peru, the government has declared the visit a matter of national interest. The Pope is scheduled to visit Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa. The visit to Chiclayo is noted as the first time a Pope has visited that diocese. In Argentina, the Episcopal Conference is organizing a national collection to fund the logistical costs of the Pope's arrival.
