Pope Leo XIV to visit Argentina and Uruguay in November

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to conduct an apostolic visit to South America in November, with significant stops planned in Argentina and Uruguay.

In Argentina, the visit is set for November 8–11, 2026, covering Buenos Aires, Luján, and Córdoba. The Argentine Episcopal Conference has launched digital initiatives, including a WhatsApp channel, to prepare the faithful. Preparations include a national collection in August and the development of an official hymn. The Pope will be accompanied by a security detail from the Swiss Guard and the Vatican Gendarmerie.

In Uruguay, the visit marks the first papal trip to the country in nearly four decades. In Florida, authorities are coordinating logistics and security, considering moving the scheduled mass from Plaza Asamblea to the Municipal Hippodrome to accommodate larger crowds. In Paysandú, the first mass in America is expected to be held. Religious leaders, such as Monsignor Arturo Fajardo, suggest the visit offers an opportunity for dialogue between the Church and Uruguay’s traditionally secular society. Additionally, the University of Concepción del Uruguay (UCU) is coordinating institutional actions to support the visit.
