Pope Leo XIV scheduled for South American and European tour in 2026
Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to undertake an extensive apostolic journey to South America and Europe in late 2026.
In Argentina, the visit is set for November 8–11, 2026, with planned activities in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Luján. The Argentine Episcopal Conference has launched a WhatsApp channel, ‘León XIV llega’, to provide spiritual preparation and logistical updates to the faithful. The Pope will be accompanied by a security detail of approximately 20 members from the Swiss Guard and the Vatican Gendarmerie.
In Uruguay, preparations are underway for a visit in November. In the city of Florida, authorities are evaluating moving a planned mass from Plaza Asamblea to the Municipal Hippodrome to accommodate larger crowds. Additionally, there are indications that the first mass in America may be held in Paysandú.
In Peru, the government has declared the Pope's visit from November 11–17 as a matter of national interest. This designation aims to facilitate coordination between ministries and customs to manage the expected mobilization of at least 700,000 people across cities including Lima and Cusco.
In France, the Pope is scheduled to visit from September 25–28, 2026. The itinerary includes events in Paris, such as a mass at Place de la Concorde, a youth vigil at the Stade de France, and vespers at Notre-Dame de Paris, as well as visits to Lourdes and Metz.
