Pope Leo XIV to celebrate Mass at Genazzano shrine in September 2026
Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to visit the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Genazzano, Italy, on September 7, 2026. The Vatican confirmed the Pope will celebrate an evening Mass at 6:00 PM local time on the eve of the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
During the visit, a new painting depicting Pope Leo XIV in prayer before the image of Our Lady of Good Counsel will be unveiled. The shrine holds significant personal importance for the Pope, who was a member of the Augustinian Order and served as its leader from 2001 to 2013.
This upcoming visit follows a surprise appearance at the shrine on May 10, 2025, just two days after his election. The shrine has been entrusted to the Augustinian religious order since the 14th century.
