Pope Leo XIV meets Bob Dylan at the Vatican

Pope Leo XIV held a private audience with American singer-songwriter and Nobel laureate Bob Dylan at the Apostolic Palace on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The meeting occurred during Dylan’s current tour of Italy, which includes upcoming performances in Rome, Milan, and Bologna.

The encounter was described by Vatican News as brief, consisting of greetings and lighthearted conversation. During the meeting, the Pope presented the 85-year-old musician with a rosary, while Dylan gifted the Pontiff a copy of his autobiography, “Chronicles: Volume One.”

The meeting follows a previous connection between the two figures: in July 2026, Pope Leo XIV cited lyrics from Dylan’s 1963 protest song, “Go Away You Bomb,” in the preface of a book regarding global disarmament and nuclear threats. This was not Dylan’s first meeting with a Pope, having previously performed for Pope John Paul II in Bologna in 1997.
