Pope Leon XIV appears on new Vatican euro coins as he urges deeper prayer in liturgical address

The Vatican State released a new series of euro‑denominated coins featuring Pope Leon XIV. The higher‑value coins display the Pope’s portrait, while the lower‑value pieces bear the papal coat of arms. A special 5‑euro coin honors the 800th anniversary of St Francis of Assisi’s death, showing the saint renouncing his worldly goods. The traditional eight‑coin set is sold for €39, and a special version with the 5‑euro piece costs €59.

In a general audience at St Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leon XIV described the Eucharist and the Liturgy of Hours as “the breath of the Church’s life.” He warned against treating prayer as a psychological technique and encouraged the faithful to integrate the Liturgy of Hours more fully into daily life, emphasizing its role as a source of spiritual hope and vigilance.
