Pope Leon XIV blesses plaque naming Lampedusa pier after Pope Francis

On 4 July 2026 Pope Leon XIV arrived in Lampedusa after stopping at the Porta d’Europa. He proceeded to the Favaloro pier, the landing point for migrant boats, where a short ceremony was held to rename the site “Molo Papa Francesco”. The commemorative plaque, blessed by the Pope, reads:

“Molo Papa Francesco, luogo di approdo, speranza e umanità.”

After the dedication, Pope Leon XIV greeted local faithful, met migrants staying at the Contrada Imbriacola hotspot, and then departed by car to a nearby stadium for a Mass.
