Pope Leon XIV calls on Jesuit universities to meet youth’s spiritual hunger

Pope Leon XIV addressed the presidents of Jesuit colleges and universities of North America during a Vatican audience, urging them to respond to the “hunger of God” he sees among many young people. He emphasized the need for institutions to continue forming “men and women for others,” to offer Spiritual Exercises and discernment pathways, and to become “powerful channels” for systemic change that supports the poor, migrants and refugees.

In his weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square, the pontiff added a personal appeal to young Catholics, telling them to “choose schools and universities wisely and discern their vocation prudently.” He encouraged participation in Mass, meditation, retreats, pilgrimages and family gatherings, and asked the faithful to quiet the noises that keep them from hearing God’s word.
