Pope Leon XIV concludes Spanish tour with Gran Canaria visit

Pope Leon XIV wrapped up his apostolic journey across Spain by flying from Barcelona to Gran Canaria, where he was greeted by crowds and celebrated with a public blessing at the island’s stadium. During the final stage of his trip, the pontiff emphasized unity, peace and the need to combat corruption and injustice, urging authorities to safeguard vulnerable citizens.

The regional government of the Canary Islands presented the pope with a genealogical study that traces his family roots to Santa Cruz de La Palma. The research documents a lineage dating back to the early 17th century, linking Leon XIV to local fishing families and includes a parchment of thirteen generations and a handcrafted cultural artefact.

The visit highlighted the diplomatic and cultural ties between the Vatican and Spain, drawing significant public and media attention throughout the country.
