Pope Leon XIV urges Church to listen, heal wounds and promote peace after Vatican consistory

A two‑day extraordinary consistory convened by Pope Leon XIV in the Vatican focused on implementing synodality, caring for young people, strengthening families and rebuilding the common good. The Pope called for a culture of dialogue, urging the Church to listen, heal societal wounds and work for peace. He highlighted the need for the Church to be a "good Samaritan" to those hurt by wars, poverty and isolation.

Polish Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś opened the discussions with a meditation on the parable of the Good Samaritan, underscoring compassion and overcoming prejudice. The Vatican announced that similar gatherings will be held annually and that an October meeting will address the reception of the Amoris laetitia adhortation, involving episcopal conference leaders, Eastern‑rite hierarchs and families. Topics also included artificial intelligence, social fragmentation and radical individualism, with a call to revive a shared sense of the common good rooted in Catholic social teaching.
