Pope Leon XIV urges love over hate in Angelus address

Pope Leon XIV delivered his weekly Angelus address from the window of the Apostolic Palace to faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square. He emphasised that authentic evangelisation arises from a personal encounter with Christ, nurtured in prayer and contemplation, rather than from strategies or techniques.

Quoting the Gospel of Matthew, he called on believers to respond to hatred with love, to pride with meekness, and to despair with perseverance. He highlighted the importance of quiet moments of silence for every Christian, not only for a spiritual elite, and urged the faithful to deepen the roots of their faith and missionary work through a deeper relationship with God.
