Pope Leon XIV visits Montserrat Abbey in Catalonia
On 10 June 2026 Pope Leon XIV made a second pilgrimage to the Benedictine monastery of Montserrat, a site celebrated as a centuries‑old centre of Catalan Marian devotion. Arriving from the Brians prison where he met inmates, the Pope was welcomed by the bishop of Sant‑Feliu de Llobregat and led the faithful in the Rosary and the Salve Regina.
He highlighted the sanctuary’s role as a “beacon of Western Christian culture” and called on the crowd to recognise one another as brothers and sisters, urging the removal of division. The visit follows his earlier stop at Montserrat in 2013 when he was Cardinal Robert Prevost, and it underscores his continued emphasis on unity, peace and shared faith within the region.
