Pope Leon XIV's Paris visit sparks call for 10,000 volunteers
Pope Leon XIV will be in Paris from 25 September (with events continuing through 28 September). The diocese has launched a recruitment drive for roughly 10,000 volunteers to assist with crowd management, security, logistics, medical aid and support for people with reduced mobility. Volunteers will work alongside police and prefectural authorities to ensure safety during outdoor masses, a visit to Notre‑Dam and other public gatherings expected to draw hundreds of thousands of spectators.
Individuals such as a 24‑year‑old emergency‑medicine intern, a 28‑year‑old jurist, and members of the Knights of Columbus have pledged to help, reflecting a broad appeal across professional and age groups. The bishop of Pontoise emphasized the need for reliable young volunteers and set up an online registration portal, also launching a donation campaign to fund the event’s organization.
