Pope calls for end to migrant trafficking during Canary Islands visit

Pope Francis (referred to as Leone) addressed an audience at the Arguineguín port in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, urging Europe and the international community to confront the growing migrant crisis. He emphasized that “every human life is a blessing of God” and called on authorities to protect the dignity of migrants arriving by sea.

The pontiff condemned criminal smuggling networks, urging traffickers to “stop and convert,” and appealed for coordinated action by origin, transit and destination countries. He highlighted the need for stronger protection, fair treatment and cooperation to reduce the exploitation and suffering of migrants.
