Pope Pius V and the historical Battle of Lepanto

The historical Battle of Lepanto, fought on October 7, 1571, is highlighted for its religious and geopolitical significance. During the crisis, Pope St. Pius V called upon the Catholic faithful to pray the Rosary to counter the threat posed by the Ottoman Empire to Christendom.

In addition to spiritual exhortations, Pius V provided financial support for the fortifications of Malta following the siege of 1565. The victory at Lepanto is framed as a pivotal moment where spiritual devotion and the efforts of European powers converged to halt Ottoman expansion. Modern commentary draws parallels between this historical struggle and contemporary internal challenges within the Church, urging continued fidelity to tradition and prayer.
