Popăuți Research Station develops new goat breed for dairy market

Researchers at the Popăuți Research Station in Botoșani, Romania, are developing a new breed of goat designed to transform the domestic dairy market. The project involves crossing Anglo-Nubian goats, which originate from North-East Africa, with local Romanian breeds to create a new ecotype.

The resulting milk is expected to have superior nutritional qualities, including higher levels of fat and protein, and a capacity to help regulate cholesterol. A key feature of this new breed is the elimination of the strong, specific scent and taste typically associated with goat milk, making it more palatable for general consumers who seek the health benefits of goat products without the characteristic flavor profile.

The Popăuți Research Station, which previously gained international recognition for the Karakul de Botoșani sheep breed, is utilizing modern genetic technology and a team of young researchers to advance this biological creation.
