Popular colorful shrimp species for aquariums

Various colorful shrimp species are popular choices for aquarium enthusiasts, ranging from beginner-friendly options to highly specialized varieties.

Red Fire shrimp (Neocaridina heteropoda) are noted as a top choice for beginners due to their robust nature and bright red color. They thrive in planted tanks of at least 20 liters with regular water changes. Other Neocaridina variants include the Blue Velvet shrimp, known for its intense blue hue, and the White Pearl dwarf shrimp, which offers a pearlescent white appearance.

In contrast, Sulawesi shrimp from the lakes of Indonesia are considered among the most demanding species. They require specific warm, mineral-rich, and alkaline water conditions, making them suitable only for specialized species-only tanks.
