Popular Mobilization Forces evacuate Iraqi bases amid strike warnings

Members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Iraq have reportedly begun temporary evacuations of several bases and the relocation of personnel. This precautionary measure follows intelligence suggesting potential military strikes by Saudi Arabia, possibly supported by the United States, against PMF positions within Iraqi territory.

The heightened alert comes amid rising regional tensions after Saudi Arabia claimed that its east-to-west oil pipeline infrastructure was targeted by drones launched from Iraqi soil. While Riyadh has refrained from an immediate retaliatory strike at the request of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, the kingdom has maintained its right to take necessary actions to protect its vital infrastructure.

Iraqi authorities have launched investigations into the origin of the drone attacks. PMF commanders have stated that their actions are precautionary and remain within the framework of Iraq's senior security command, warning that any attack on Iraqi sovereignty would trigger a response. The Iraqi government is currently navigating efforts to prevent the country from becoming a direct battlefield for regional conflicts.
