Porbandar to host Gujarat’s 25th Cultural Forest dedicated to Gandhi

The Gujarat government is set to inaugurate the state’s 25th ‘Sanskrutik Van’ (Cultural Forest) in Porbandar on October 1. Developed at a cost of Rs 20-crore across 14 hectares near Odadar village, the facility is dedicated to the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, specifically his concept of ‘Sarvodaya’ or the ‘upliftment of all’. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will lead the inauguration.

The forest is designed to integrate environmental conservation with Gandhian ideals such as truth, non-violence, peace, and self-reliance. It features several themed sections, including Mahatma Van, which uses stone murals to depict Gandhi’s journey, and Satya Van, which focuses on ethics. Other areas include Shanti Van for meditation and yoga, Gram Swaraj to showcase rural lifestyles and traditional agriculture, and Ayush Van, which highlights medicinal plants related to Ayurveda and Unani.

In the broader context of Gandhi’s legacy, his life’s journey can be traced through significant historical sites across India, including Porbandar, Sabarmati, Sevagram, and Rajghat, which represent different chapters of his political and social development.
