Porcelain Figure Fetches Over €2,000 on 'Bares für Rares' TV Show

Monika and Rafael Nowak from Simmerath appeared on the German television programme Bares für Rares, presenting a small porcelain figure known as the “Snail Rider.” They had bought the piece at a flea market for about €10. Expert Colmar Schulte‑Goltz identified it as a rare work by Austrian ceramic designer Michael Powolny, likely produced around 1912. The host Horst Lichter set a wish price, and the figure ultimately sold for more than €2,100, far exceeding the original purchase amount.

The sale highlighted the enduring market for antique ceramics and demonstrated how modest finds can attract significant interest and value when authenticated on the popular antiques‑valuation show.
