Pordenonelegge festival explores AI workforce training and regulation

During the Pordenonelegge festival, experts and industry leaders discussed the integration of artificial intelligence within the workforce and the societal risks associated with the technology.

Antonio Piva, president of AICA, emphasized that the regional economy in Friuli Venezia Giulia requires professionals capable of utilizing AI as a support tool rather than being replaced by it. AICA reported that recent assessments of AI basic knowledge showed a low average score of 51.1%, with over 50% of participants scoring below the 50% threshold, highlighting a significant need for technical training and digital competence.

In a separate discussion, IT entrepreneur Stefano Quintarelli dismissed the notion of AI causing human extinction as nonsense. Presenting his book, ‘La bolla dell’intelligenza artificiale’, Quintarelli argued that the real risks lie in how humans design, use, and regulate these systems. He suggested that the primary danger is not autonomous machine control, but rather human speculation and the delegation of decisions without considering values and responsibility.
