Porirua burger sales exceed $600,000 in August

The Porirua City Council reported that the Visa Wellington On a Plate (WOAP) campaign generated $602,498 in direct burger sales during August. A total of 21,595 burgers were sold, marking a significant economic boost for the local hospitality sector.

This growth represents a substantial upward trend, with direct burger sales in Porirua more than tripling over the last two years, rising from $197,732 in 2024 to $364,415 in 2025. These figures do not include additional revenue from sides or drinks.

Nineteen local businesses participated in Burger Wellington. Notable achievements included Elemental Eats, which placed third overall out of 245 entries, and Sushil’s Musclechef Café, which hosted the first WOAP festival event to sell out.
