Pork prices in Colombia drop amid increased supply
Pork prices in Colombia have decreased by 6.7% due to an increased national supply and lower production costs, positioning it as a competitive alternative to other proteins. This trend contrasts with rising prices for beef (up 14.3%), chicken (up 3.3%), and fish (up 2%).
According to market analysis by Bancolombia, the average price of live pigs was 26.5% lower than the previous year as of June. Carcass prices also saw a decline of approximately 25%. This price drop is supported by a reduction in the cost of essential raw materials, such as yellow corn and soy, which saw international prices fall by about 7% in 2025.
For producers, the current market environment necessitates a focus on feed conversion efficiency, sanitary management, and vertical integration to maintain margins. For consumers, the lower retail prices for pork are contributing to a reduction in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and driving protein substitution decisions in households.
