Porlamar commercial district fire destroys three stores

In the early hours of 30 July, a large fire engulfed three retail units—Mister Price, Oh Wow and Día Loco—inside the Los Cedros commercial centre on Bolívar Avenue in Porlamar, Nueva Esparta, Venezuela. The blaze, which officials say was likely triggered by a short circuit and accelerated by the presence of highly flammable materials, spread rapidly through the three‑storey building.

Firefighters, civil‑protection units and municipal police arrived within minutes, deploying water tankers and conducting preventive evacuations of nearby structures. The incident caused extensive material damage but no injuries were reported. Lieutenant‑Colonel José Hernández of the Nueva Esparta fire corps and Security Director José Medina confirmed the cause is under investigation and urged all commercial owners to comply with fire‑safety inspections and update electrical installations.

Authorities have launched a technical investigation to determine the exact ignition point and have announced a special monitoring operation to enforce fire‑safety regulations in the region’s commercial premises.
