Pornhub restores access in Australia via Apple age-verification
Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, has restored access to the platform for certain users in Australia following the implementation of device-level age-verification tools on Apple devices.
The service had been blocked nationwide in March to avoid potential fines of $49.5 million under online safety regulations that require adult platforms to verify users are at least 18 years old. Aylo previously argued that such requirements posed significant data privacy risks and were ineffective due to the use of virtual private networks (VPNs).
Access is now available to Australian iOS users who have completed Apple’s age-verification process, which involves confirming age via a credit card or government-issued identification such as a passport or driver’s license. Alex Kekesi, Aylo’s vice-president for brand and community, stated that Apple’s approach sets a benchmark by automating child safety features for unverified users.
